After I had finished photographing the monks' sculptures, I noticed a lovely painting on the wall facing the sculptures. Of course, I had to photograph it. The local artist is JoAn Melchild.

I met JoAn via email in 2008. She asked my permission to use a Great Blue Heron photograph I had taken following a very strong windstorm at the Big Stone Lake Wildlife Refuge, just south of Ortonville, MN.  First, my photo of the bedraggled Heron.

Next is JoAn's depiction.

I prefer JoAn's. It emphasizes the characteristics of the Heron and stones while eliminating unnecessary details.
